Why on earth is almost every liquor store closed on a Sunday? I mean c’mon, why is the only BCLS store that is open on Sunday the one on Alberni st. downtown? So I’m forced to either walk from the west end to pick up a six pack on Sunday instead of just running around the corner to the Bute st. BCLS. Is this the prohibition?

I agree! As a matter of fact, I don’t get why any stores should close earlier or be closed all together on Sunday’s. They should run the liqour stores here like they do in the US, being able to go the gas station at 2am any night of the week to pick up some booze is as convenient as a convenience store can get.
I agree, this being closed and/or closing early on Sundays business goes back to the whole attending church thing, but all forms of church are just corrupt cults. We should leave the bible thumpers in the dust and reclaim Sunday as a day like all others.
No arguments from me. One of the few things the U.S. has going for it vis-a-vis Canada is the fact that you can buy beer at the 7-11, the grocery store, damned near everywhere. Why are we stuck in this 19th-century mindset that alcohol or liquor is something that needs to be strictly ‘controlled’ and can only be purchased from special government stores that operate on government hours?
You can buy beer at corner stores in Quebec - in Canada. It’s very convenient and great at supporting little stores too. All of Canada should embrace this distinct culture!
liquor stores are closed in the US due to the blue laws. but that doesn’t affect canada. the only thing that I can think of is religious beliefs. some disagree with drinking on “sabath”
