I just read that the Vancouver Art Gallery has run out of space. A top site considered? False Creek! What is with Vancouver? First they want to move St. Paul’s out the downtown core and now the art gallery? What major city does not have a hospital or main art gallery in its downtown core?
What do they want the downtown peninsula to be - a park for Christ’s sake? It’s an embarrassment that more and more key structures and amenities are being considered for a move out. Does NY have all of its main galleries in Queen’s or London move the the Tate to the suburbs.
I know space is limited downtown but does every square km need to be a condo or Starbucks? What a joke.

I didn’t realize False Creek was considered the burbs now. Also, that would make it in closer proximity to the Vancouver Museum.
You’re not too bright.

False Creek isn’t real. Why is the art museum called a gallery? Can they stick a Krispy Kreme in the bottom of the Shangri-La? That’d be nice. Then I wouldn’t have to walk so far for a doughnut fix. Mmm, doughnuts. I like art, too, but don’t really feel like crying a river if it moves to a creek that ins’t really one. It’s not too far, but I do see your point. The city is a bit condo crazed. Yeah, that’s about all I have to say about that.

Downtown will be nothing but overpriced and undersized condos with starbucks squished inbetween.

Dear “Me” Go f*^k yourself. This a rant site not an attack the ranter site. The fact that you had to personally attack my intelligence tells me:
a) you do not live downtown and could give a crap about it
b) you obviously live in False Creek or close by
c) you do not care about the fate of the affordable housing and a vibrant and eclectic downtown which is the backbone of a great city

I have seen some of the world’s most famous and amazing art galleries while traveling across Europe. I have never been much of a fan of our gallery and a move to a bigger lot (in False Creek or not) might mean we can have a bigger and better gallery that can attract more world-class exhibits.

UPDATE: It has been announced that a new space has been secured for the Art Gallery and it is downtown! Wendy, maybe your info is correct but Georgia and Pender are parallel, so not sure. Anyhow a good news story!

Hey I just wanted to let everyone know that its not a museum nor a gallery. It is simply a storage facility for Emily Cars over exploited and highly over rated art. yes she is amazing and definitely a important part of Canadian art history but nobody deserves to have their art up 24/7/365 especially not in a city that takes so much credit for celebrating its many cultures. (incase the nay sayers of this site wanna take a stab at my culture, im a scottish, english, native and weird mix of euro south east mutt otherwise known as jew.)
P.S. Who is this californian lady who is the head of the art gallery now. What a moronic snob. She spoke at a graduation ceremony last year in Calgary and maybe she had an off day but that was one of the worst first impressions I have ever been given. No need to go into detail but im pretty sure cant spell canada.
Go Back to California!!!!
